Sometimes it’s a little hard to get out of a snuggly bed and get on in here – however once here I am always happy! Sweet potato shepard’s pie, slow roasted beef shoulders and baklava fill the air with the best smells – even at 8am! We need to find a way to pipe this smell into the circle and get more folks out here trying our food : )

Chile Shack John woke up wanting hamburgers – Murray Cohen brought us beautiful ground beef yesterday – Screech Owl brought the tastiest tomatoes you’ll ever eat in January and John scored us delicious beer buns from the Bread Shop …. so it’s burgers in the hood for all our meat eaters today. Not in the mood for meat? How about some brown rice with Screech collards and tomato? And for any of the wonderful folks that came last Saturday to Debbie Roos Natural Beekeeping lecture … we have hooked up a couple of Sweet Potato Shepard’s pies. It is amazing what you can cook in this town without ever going past Chatham County! So let those gas prices soar … we’re keeping our food and money local and let everyone else be jealous of how lucky we are!

Thanks to the amazing talents of Lisa Duff we are proud to offer you the best tasting lamb in the whole state (I actually think the best lamb in the country!) This lamb was roasted with a few of Screech’s tomatoes, some excellent mint from one of our cool customers and just a touch of salt and pepper. That’s all you need for this delicious lamb. When Josie, John and I decided we would open a little local food restaurant in tiny little Pittsboro we thought it would be “Fun” : ) For years we had enjoyed restaurant food all over the USA – we had our favorite spots in New Mexico and had even found a few here in North Carolina. During all the time we ate out we never imagined how much frigging work goes into owning and operating a small teeny weeny take out (which is how we started!) Well it’s almost three years since we opened the shop and we are here to tell you – you do in fact have to be more intelligent than you would think, harder working than you ever imagined and you have to have a sense of humor. So for anyone wondering what happened over the GSC – keep in mind, this is a labor of love – you should respect the amount of sweat, blood and tears that went into making that place happen.
