today we have all kinds of delicious “never miss the gluten” dishes. I was inspired by preparing a meal at Celebrity Dairy last sunday where we had a few guests that required a gluten free version of moussaka. This got me to thinking that quite a bit of greek cuisine is naturally gluten free (until you add the hunk of bread you use to soak up all the sauce : ) Today you’re gonna have the chance to enjoy our classic greek chicken soup (avgolemono) made with rice instead of orzo. I just finished the batch and it’s delicious! we also have a shop full of tiny bells thanks to Dutch Buffalo Farm and Screech Owl, we decided to stuff with a vegetable rice. To top everything off we scored beautiful okra from Rocky River Farm and have stewed them with tomatoes Carol Hewitt froze from the final pickings at Screech Owl’s greenhouse. Local food doesn’t only mean the food is grown near you … here in Chatham County each batch comes with personal cool stories about the actual people involved in growing, harvesting and storing the food. the best part? you can many times run into each of these people here in our shop – thus completing the meal and bringing our food chain full circle.
