I was so sure when John and I made the decision to open this place it would be an easy breezy job (tehehe)  My friend Johnny Mariakakis tried so hard to tell me …. this is not an easy job – think before you start this money pit!!!  If you’ve ever been to Mariakakis Fine food and wine up in Chapel Hill then most likely you have met Johnny.  He really did try his best to talk me out of doing this .. and there are days I wish I had listened a little better.  Anywho …. today is not one of those days : )  Today Maria and I pulled out some amazing last minute specials (since last nights farm delivery went astray)  what are we feeding you?  Sweet potato shepard’s pie, cold beet soup(ang style), left over stuffed peppers from yesterday (which maria and I shared one this morning and they’re so frigging tasty! .. thanks Screech for the recipe <3)

$5 Special – Cup of lentil soup (or Cold tomato soup) with one spinach and one cheese pie

Sweet Potato Shepard’s Pie – ground beef and hot sausage from Cohen farm, a little Smith Angus Farm roasted beef,  Caliburn Farm carrots and a whipped sweet potato top. $8  add a side salad $3

Screech Owl Stuffed Rainbow Peppers! – enjoy these gorgeous bell peppers stuffed with rice, local tomatoes, local corn, and the meat ones with Smith Angus ground beef!  they taste as good as they smell!

Veggie half pepper $5  Meat half pepper $6  ADD a side salad $3 Any TWO half peppers $8

Smith Angus Farm Beef shoulder Sandwich – beef shoulder slow roasted with a touch of local tomatoes, garlic and onion, served on a grilled pita bread with your choice of 3 toppings $8

BROWN RICE BOWL – our brown rice topped with any or all of the following toppings (all rice bowl items are gluten free) $7 veggie only $8 with meat

  • Green Chile Beef Stew – made from scratch beef broth, local stew beef, local roasted green chiles, a touch of tomatoes, beans and corn
  • Lentils – our signature made from scratch lentil soup with an extra dose of turmeric for our bodies
  • Slow Roasted Beef shoulder – Smith Angus Farm beef shoulder roasted with tomatoes and onion
  • Greens Bake – a blend of local dark greens (swiss chard, parsley, kale) mxed with local eggs, some ricotta and feta

Lentil Soup – our signature lentil soup made with lots of carrots and extra turmeric

Avgolemono (Greek Chicken Soup) – every real greek restaurant and home have this soup : )  made from scratch chicken broth, orzo, local eggs and fresh lemon juice make this traditional greek soup

Cold Tomato Soup – fabulous tomatoes from Adrian Thorn’s farm – blended with Screech cucumbers, a little bread, onions, garlic, olive oil and red wine vinegar.  so tasty!  $3

Cold Beet Soup – beets and carrots from Caliburn Farm, a few corolla potatoes from Forever Green farm, a few leeks from Bill Dow’s place …. and viola!  a fabulous smooth vegan beet soup.  Ask for a dollop of yogurt if you like $3.50
